At first mention, intermittent fasting (“IF”) sounds like some type of cruel punishment or diet in which you don’t eat! However, it is actually quite the opposite. It isn’t a diet but a WAY of eating that is healthy & beneficial. Keep reading below for some background info on IF! (and remember, you always want to contact your doctor or healthcare provider before starting any type of diet/exercise program!)
IF is simply an eating pattern. You choose a certain time frame during the day that you consume all of your food. Typically, my clients start out with a 10 hour eating window & gradually decrease it. It can actually be a little difficult in the beginning to get all of your food in during a shorter frame of time and most find that they don’t get hungry like they typically do when “dieting!”
The benefits of IF are endless! The ones most commonly seen are increased energy, decreased fatigue, better sleep, fat loss, & increased metabolism. Research has also found IF to make us less insulin resistant which is incredible for those with diabetes and/or PCOS that have struggled to lose weight in the past! IF can also help with improving cognition, memory, & clear thinking!
